Commit to taking dedicated walks each day during lunch or an extended walk in the evenings with your dog. Wear a pedometer every day, all day to see how these small lifestyle changes can bump up your total steps walked. This information can be an awesome motivator.</p>
<p>When purchasing a pedometer, there are quite a few features to consider. In addition to displaying steps taken, some devices can measure calories burned. Although this is seemingly great information to have, it is important to realize that the accuracy of counting calories burned relies on quite a few variables making the accuracy of this number less than perfect.</p>
<p>The factors that must be taken into account when calculating calories burned are your individual body type, stride length, and whether the steps you are taking are aerobic or non-aerobic. Aerobic steps are the steps you take while running and your heart rate is elevated. Non-aerobic steps are the steps you take during an average walk. If you can find a pedometer that knows the difference between the two and the number of calories burned is important to you, then this model is the one you should consider.</p>
<p>Make sure the device is easy to read with a large display and a back light. See what the reviewers are saying about the noise it makes while it is clipped on. Some units have been reported to be noisy as they clang back and forth in their holders. Sturdiness is important because if you do end up wearing the pedometer every day it’s likely to be dropped, sat on, and even inadvertently thrown into the washing machine now and again.</p>
<p>If you are keen on tracking all the steps taken in a day, look for a pedometer that resets itself at midnight and stores the prior day’s steps. <p>There is a much more common occurrence of people that are overweight or obese in the United States today. Statistics have shown that almost two-thirds of the adults in America are overweight or obese. The more immediate concern is the fact that about 15% of American children and adolescents are overweight and there is another 15% that are at risk for being overweight.</p>
<p>Obesity in children is becoming more and more concerning. There are a substantial number of children that are obese and have started developing medical condition and diseases that are normally associated with adults. The smallest children are at risk of being overweight or obese. Approximately 10% of the preschoolers in America weigh more than they should for their age and body type.</p>
<p>There are a variety of medical conditions that many people can develop related to being overweight or obese. Some of these conditions include high blood pressure, diabetes, stroke, high cholesterol, and many others. The most common condition, however, is heart disease. If you are overweight or obese, there is a very strong chance that you will develop heart disease.</p>
<p>Heart disease is the most common cause of death in America today. In the United States, there is one person that is killed by heart disease every thirty-four seconds. Heart disease is a term that relates to many different medical conditions and afflictions of the heart.</p>
<p>It is often much easier to just label it as heart disease than to get into the specific details and different ailments of heart disease. Another reason for this is that there is usually more than one thing affecting the heart. There can be multiple conditions going on at once. These conditions combine and attack the heart. It essentially becomes a diseased, poorly working organ. Eventually, the disease process completely takes over and death is imminent.</p>
<p>There are many ways to reduce the risk of heart disease and to curb problems with obesity. Even losing as little as 10 pounds can lower your risks and actually start reversing health problems. There are many different programs and treatments available.</p>
<p>Some people are able to lose weight and become healthier through diet and exercise. However, in cases of extreme obesity, this often does not work. People that have severe obesity could need surgery or special procedures that are done by a doctor to be able to lose the weight. There are also pills and other medications that can help with obesity. The important thing is to find a way to lose the weight. This is the only way to reduce the health risks. It will put less stress on the body and the heart. With this stress decreased, the body can start healing itself.</p>

Common sense tells us that weight gain is simply the  fact of eating too many calories and the wrong foods along with lack of exercise.</p>
<p>So what can we use to turn your weight gain around and instead lose weight? Diets and healthy eating is one option and the most common, and of course exercising more, but, what if I told you that you could make a big difference in your health and weight by just breathing properly? Sounds crazy and so simple, something we do naturally without even thinking, but believe it or not, most people don&#8217;t breathe properly and aren&#8217;t even aware of it!</p>
<p>We all know the benefits of the proper breathing technique; increased energy, stress relief, and a heightened sense of well-being.  If you’re breathing improperly your body isn’t gaining the full benefit of the lungs and you body suffers as a result in the same proportion. This problem gets worse when you consider that most people also don’t exhale properly and a lot of waste products and gases are left to accumulate in the lungs and body.</p>
<p>This sluggish feeling can start a vicious cycle where the person goes from having no energy to snacking on sugar filled pick-me-ups, which contain extra calories, which add to the weight gain, which eventually add to the feeling of fatigue and the cycle goes on and on!</p>
<p>By using the proper breathing technique you can increase your intake of oxygen to the body. Because oxygen is so vital (we can live for a couple of days without food and water but only minutes without air), we can see how much our bodies rely on it to perform properly.  All the organs require oxygen to function appropriately,  even the process of digestion needs oxygen to process the food and burn up the waste products.</p>
<p>So as you can see if your body is not getting its necessary quota of oxygen for optimum performance, your body will change to accommodate; your metabolism slows down, fatigue, weight gain, poor performance and even fuzzy thinking or memory loss will result. Therefore, it is imperative for both your body and emotional well being to breathe properly so everything functions the way it&#8217;s supposed to. And the best part is, it&#8217;s so easy to do and you can do breathing exercises anywhere (even if you’re sitting in your car in traffic) and you don’t have to buy any equipment or gym memberships!</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>This type of diet aims to secure most of the daily required amount of calories from protein foods, such as meat, dairy products and eggs, with a very small part taken from foods containing a lot of carbs (bread, pasta, potatoes and fruits). The biggest problem with this diet is that many common and popular foods are forbidden, which makes it easy for the user to get bored or frustrated. When boredom and frustration set in, quitting time is never far off. Another problem is the lack of nutrients that are usually brought in by carbohydrate foods, while allowing the user to eat bacon and cheese that raise cholesterol levels.</p>
<p>The bottom line is that high protein/low carb diets result in fast weight loss in some users, but it’s not just fat that goes away. People also lose some of their lean muscle mass and a lot of water as the kidneys work harder to rid the body of excess waste from protein and fat.</p>
<p>The added stress to your kidneys may not be healthy at all and, in the long run, can lead to dehydration, headaches, feelings of nausea and dizziness. Before engaging in a long-term diet, you would do well to discuss it with your physician. And if you are really eager to diet, try a balanced diet first, because it will help you lose weight without the possibility of jeopardizing your system if done properly.</p>

<p>Alcohol has 7 calories per gram. Fat has 9 calories per gram. Drinking an alcoholic beverage from time to time won&#8217;t kill your diet, but frequent drinking will. Alcoholic beverages can be just as bad for your diet as that greasy pizza &#8211; maybe worse. Liquid calories are typically easier to consume, and drinking your calories can cause them to add up more quickly than you&#8217;d think!</p>
<p>There are other effects of alcohol on your weight loss as well. Alcohol loosens you up, and helps you relax. It also loosens your dieting resolve. This means that you are less focused on your weight loss goals, and may inadvertently consume more calories than you originally intended. One wing or chip can turn into many, as you become more relaxed about your diet. Consuming large amounts of alcohol can be synonymous with consuming larger amounts of food.</p>
<p>Alcoholic beverages are also generally consumed in addition to food. So, if you drink several drinks with a high calorie content, you are probably also eating at the same time. This can lead to taking in a high number of calories in a short amount of time, simply because you are not paying attention to your drinks. You can help slow this process down by drinking a glass of water after each alcoholic beverage. You&#8217;ll feel fuller, and in turn you&#8217;ll eat and drink less.</p>
<p>There are several effects of alcohol on your weight loss. Drinking alcoholic beverages can add calories to your day quickly. Alcohol has a high calorie content, similar to fatty foods. Liquid calories in alcoholic beverages go down easily, but pack a dietary punch. Alcohol can also cause you to eat more than you originally intended. Dieters, drink with care, and be careful how many calories you consume through your drink of choice.</p>

Winter can be challenging when it comes to maintaining, or especially losing, weight. The days get shorter, the nights longer and sometimes all you want to do is sit in a comfortable chair next to the fireplace. But if you can be mindful of a few small tips, you might just be able to avoid what many consider to be inevitable.</p>
<p>When it comes right down to it, there are just limited outdoor activities that you can do if you live in harsh winter climates. Indoor exercise is boring and stagnant to many people so it becomes looked upon as a chore in comparison to outdoor exercising which makes you feel healthier. There isn&#8217;t too much you can do to change the fact that you&#8217;ll have to move your routine inside. But what you can do is make it short. In fact, you can cut your workout time in half just by varying it&#8217;s intensity. Switch back and forth between shorts bursts of high aerobic exercise that really gets you huffing and puffing with rest periods where you just calm it down.</p>
<p>Next, pay attention to what you&#8217;re eating. Not just what you are eating every day but how it looks, smells and tastes in your mouth. If you can enjoy your meals and <a href="http://redirectingat.com?id=1221X512157&xs=1&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pntrs.com%2Ft%2F2-3890-12756-4089&sref=rss" target='_blank'>snacks</a> rather than just wolfing them down, you will feel fuller and more satisfied. Of course, this all goes along with trying to stick to a healthy diet and pattern. A good rule  of thumb is to eat three moderate meals each day and two healthy <a href="http://redirectingat.com?id=1221X512157&xs=1&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pntrs.com%2Ft%2F2-3890-12756-4089&sref=rss" target='_blank'>snacks</a>. Stick to fruit, vegetables, lean meat, whole grain and fiber-rich foods. <p>Big holiday times occur during the winter and this might be the biggest culprit of all when it comes to winter weight gain. If you&#8217;re cooking for the holidays, make sure you keep raw vegetables nearby to snack on and also serve healthy dishes as alternatives. If you&#8217;re a guest at many parties, try to go for the healthy choices first.</p>
<p>Having a buddy partner or joining some sort of support group can help too. It&#8217;s much easier to stick to your initiatives when you&#8217;re held responsible by someone else who is going for the same goals.</p>
<p>Finally, remember that winter weight gain is perfectly normal. While you don&#8217;t want to be packing on the pounds, don&#8217;t get worked up over a couple of extra ones. These can be lost almost as easily as they were gained.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>To develop a healthy eating program to maintain a healthy weight, it’s a good idea to do some research on health and nutrition.  If you’re not trying to lose weight but just want to eat well for good health, then it’s important to understand how your body uses food.  This makes it easier for you to choose healthy food and not be tricked when less-than healthy foods call themselves natural and healthy.</p>
<p>A healthy eating program should offer you much more than just a good balance of protein, fat and carbohydrates.  But if that balance isn’t in place to start with, the plan probably isn’t all that healthy.  Any plan that keeps fat at about 30% or less of the diet and stresses good fats over saturated fats probably has a healthy fat balance.  There should be plenty of sources of protein other than meat, like lots of fish, healthy dairy sources like yogurt, and beans.</p>
<p>And carbohydrates should be mostly whole grain sources like whole grain bread and oatmeal.  Whole grain pastas are better than regular pastas, and basmati rice is better than regular white rice.  A healthy eating program that stresses these smart choices over things like instant white rice and instant pre-packaged sweetened and flavored oatmeal is better than one that includes too many convenience items.</p>
<p>A healthy eating program should follow the government food pyramid pretty closely.  Whole grain carbohydrates, fruits, vegetables, beans, fish, lean meat and dairy products can all be part of a very healthy diet.  But there are other things to look at, no matter what kind of diet you choose to follow.</p>
<p>You want to make sure your healthy eating program has enough diversity so that you don’t get bored, and you get all the <a href="http://redirectingat.com?id=1221X512157&xs=1&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.gopjn.com%2Ft%2F2-4121-12756-5866&sref=rss" target='_blank'>vitamins</a> and minerals your body needs.  Baked chicken breasts, broccoli and a whole grain roll might be a healthy lunch, but no one wants to eat that several times a week.  Your plan needs to include a variety of vegetables, not just one or two.  There are more lean meats than chicken breasts, and many different ways to prepare these and other dishes.</p>
<p>You’ll also want to make sure that unhealthy things aren’t creeping into your meals.  Some diets stress that you use margarine instead of butter, for instance, because it’s lower fat and not full of saturated fat like butter. But margarine is mostly trans fat, a fat that even the government now agrees is worse for you than saturated fat. It’s a fat that should be eliminated, or at the very least severely restricted, from our diets. A healthy eating program that allows certain commercially packaged low-fat cookies and treats might not take into account the amount of trans fats and sugar in those foods, either.</p>
<p>You have to be the detective and examine all the parts of the diet you want to follow.  Yes, the balance of foods and nutrition is important, but don’t forget to look at all the other parts of your healthy eating program.</p>
